The city is also home to four major league teams, and boasts the latest in sports stadiums, with Coors Field, Invesco Field at Mile High, and the Pepsi Center among the newest additions to the sports world. All are located in the downtown area.
Denver is about average expense-wise, depending on what types of activities you indulge in. The city's hotels offer very reasonable rates. The city's fans are very loyal and supportive, but generally opposing fans are left alone if they don't step out of line. Check out JOHNNY ON THE SPOT to see how others rate Denver!! FOOD The food in Denver is average, depending on where you go. There are many chain restaurants, which offer predictable if not spectacular fare. Some of the local favorites are excellent restaurants, such as the Denver Chop House next to Coors Field. Check out the Restaurants and Bars page for the best offerings in Denver! DENVER ATTRACTIONS From fall through spring, there are plenty of ski resorts to choose from within an easy drive of Denver. For web sites of ski areas, click here. In summer, or if you're not a skier, there are other options as well. Denver is surrounded by national forests and parks, among them Pikes Peak. Six Flags Elitch Gardens is located downtown; check their web site for the park schedule. Admission is $32.99 for adults. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science and the Denver Art Museum are located in the downtown area. If you're looking for some gambling, head to the historic towns of Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek. NIGHTLIFE Denver's nightlife is centered around LoDo, the Lower Downtown area. There are many restaurants and bars packed within this neighborhood. Cherry Creek and Central Denver are two other nightlife options. Boulder also offers many restaurants and bars, and is an easy trip from Denver. Check the Restaurants and Bars page for more info. TRANSPORTATION If you come to town solely for sporting events, cabs may be cheaper than a rental car. However, with the airport over 20 miles from downtown, a rental car is usually the best choice. There is much to do outside of town, so you will probably want a car anyway. Denver's regional transit system will get you around downtown, and to many outlying suburbs. WEATHER Denver's weather is probably not what you'd expect. The city is blessed with over 300 sunny days per year, and minimal precipitation. Summers are very warm, but not overly hot; low humidity keeps things comfortable most of the time. In winter, there is snow at times, but most of it melts during the day. It will also get very cold at night, but you can often play golf in January in the Denver area. Check the City Weather page for historical temperatures and precipitation. |
