DETROIT TIGERS BASEBALL TICKETS Detroit is located in the southeast corner of Michigan, on the Detroit River just north (yes, north) of Canada. The Motor City boasts teams in all four major pro leagues, and is within an easy drive of two Big Ten towns (Ann Arbor and East Lansing). The Red Wings (Joe Louis Arena), Tigers (Comerica Park), and Lions (Ford Field) all play downtown, while the Pistons play 30 miles northwest at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Detroit is a very large city, with a metro population of over 4 million. The town is about average expense-wise. Check out JOHNNY ON THE SPOT to see how others rate Detroit!! FOOD Detroit is not known for any specific type of cuisine. If you head for Greektown, you will find plenty of restaurants to choose from. Check out the Restaurants and Bars page for the other offerings in the Motor City! DETROIT ATTRACTIONS Detroit has a few offerings if you're looking for something to do. There are three casinos within the city, as well as one across the river in Windsor. The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, located just west of Detroit in Dearborn, is a showcase of Americana. Homes, farms, and shops from America's history are recreated in the village, and the museum features artifacts such as JFK's limousine seat and Abraham Lincoln's theater seat. If you're into the Motown sound, the Motown Historical Museum is located north of the city. Housed in two adjacent buildings, the museum features artifacts from Motown's rich musical history. NIGHTLIFE Detroit's nightlife is centered around Greektown; the neighborhood is packed with bars and restaurants. There are also plenty of bars in the Fox Theatre District near Comerica Park and Ford Field, as well as the downtown area. Check the Restaurants and Bars page for more info. TRANSPORTATION The airport is about 20 miles southwest of downtown Detroit, so a cab will run at least $30. If you're headed to the Silverdome or the Palace of Auburn Hills, you will want to rent a car. If you plan to stay in the downtown area, you can get by on cabs and the People Mover. The People Mover is a great way to get around downtown if you're near a station. Trains depart every four minutes from stations throughout downtown, and the fare is only 50 cents. The People Mover runs from 7am to 11pm Monday through Thursday, 8am to midnight Friday and Saturday, and noon to 8pm Sunday, and stops at Comerica Park, Joe Louis Arena, and many other locations. WEATHER Detroit is very cold in winter, with frequent snow. Spring is very wet, but summer is warm and dry, with temperatures normally in the 80's. Check the City Weather page for historical temperatures and precipitation. |
