Texas A&M competes in the Big 12 in all sports. Originally a
member of the Southwest Conference, the Aggies moved to the Big 12 along
with three other Texas schools in the early 1990's.
The Aggie football team is very successful and hugely popular in the
area. The team plays at Kyle Field, the largest football stadium
in Texas with a capacity of 82,600. The stadium was built in 1927,
and was most recently renovated in 1999 with the addition of the end
zone upper deck.
Kyle Field is one of the best stadiums in the land for watching
college football. The A&M students stand during the entire game,
symbolizing that they are the "12th Man" and are ready to play if
needed. A&M is also well known for its "Yell Leaders," all of whom
are men. The stadium sells out nearly every game, and is one of
the toughest road games in the country.
The A&M basketball team is not nearly as successful or popular as the
football team. The team plays at spacious Reed Arena, which has
never sold out its 12,500 seats. The arena opened in 1998.
Parking is available near both venues, but you should arrive early
for football games.
