The new home of the NBA's Rockets as well as the Aeros of the American Hockey League, the Toyota Center opened in 2003.  The arena seats 18,370 for basketball and 17,400 for hockey.  The arena replaces the Compaq Center, which was located several miles west of downtown and opened in 1975.

The Toyota Center is located downtown, a few blocks west of Minute Maid Park.  The downtown area has many bars and restaurants nearby, and also plenty of hotels.

Plenty of parking is available downtown, both in city garages and in the garage adjacent to the Toyota Center.  Metered parking spots are also available.
