The
Georgia Dome is located just southwest of downtown Atlanta. The
Dome is the home of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons, and seats 71,228 for
football.
The Georgia Dome also hosts the
SEC Championship
and Peach Bowl every year, and has
hosted the Super Bowl several times as well as the Final Four.
Like most domes, the Georgia Dome has an antiseptic feel to it.
While the sightlines are pretty good, it still lacks the charisma of any
outdoor stadium. However, the dome gets extremely loud during
Falcons games, louder than just about any other stadium.
Parking surrounds the Georgia Dome, but if possible it is better to
walk from downtown or take the MARTA. The walk from downtown is a
few minutes, and there is a MARTA
stop inside the building.
Tailgating is also permitted in the lots around the Dome.
Tailgating is fair for Falcons games, but is excellent for the Peach
Bowl and SEC Championship Game as die-hard college football fans descend
on the Dome.
If you walk or take the MARTA, there is an outdoor party area with
food, beer, and live music. There is also a food court inside
nearby Philips Arena that sells bigger beers for less money than you'll
find at the dome's tailgate.
