TD Banknorth Garden Bars & Restaurants

TD Banknorth Garden, home of the Bruins and Celtics, is surrounded by many bars and restaurants that capitalize on the pre and post-game festivities of the fans.  These bars are within a quick walk from the arena, and are hopping all year long.

 

The Harp

Sports/Irish

85 Causeway St.

The Harp is usually crowded due to reasonable bar food prices and live music Thursdays through Saturdays, but its location right next to the Fleet Center doesn't hurt either.

 

Fours

English Pub

166 Canal St.

Fours is a little bit of a step up from most of the other watering holes around the Fleet Center.  It has a classic pub flavor to it that separates it from the rest of the sports bars in the neighborhood.

Commonwealth Brewery

Brewery

138 Portland St.

Commonwealth Brewery serves up great microbrews, and good food as well at reasonable prices.

 

McGann's

Irish

197 Portland St.

While its always packed before and after events at TD Banknorth Garden, McGann's is a great place to get a few drinks any time of year.

 

Faneuil Hall Bars & Restaurants

Its easy enough to find a good place to eat or hang out around the city, but Faneuil Hall has a typical American mall and traditional Boston flavor.  There are plenty of bars and restaurants around, as well as retail shops and services.

 

The Rack

Pool/Sports

24 Clinton St.

Primarily a dance club, The Rack also has 22 pool tables and an 80 foot main bar squeezed into its 13,000 square feet of floor space.  Live jazz bands play for happy hour from 4-6 daily.

 

Durgin-Park

Seafood

30 North Market St.

Located in Faneuil Hall, where plenty of restaurants are found, Durgin-Park offers a laid back atmosphere and a fantastic menu featuring New England fare.  On crowded nights you could be seated at communal tables.

Bell in Hand

American

45 Union St.

Established in 1795, the Bell in Hand is the oldest established tavern in the US.  It has two separate bars and is a hot spot for out of towners.  

 

Black Rose

Irish / Live Music

160 State St.

Live  music is offered every night in this traditional Irish pub.  The bar is decorated with flags from Irish counties.  Corned beef sandwiches are the house specialty.

 

Fenway Park Bars & Restaurants

All the bars around Fenway Park are packed before and after the games.  There are a lot of bars in the area, and most are worth going to even if the Sox are not playing.

casknflagon.jpg (33609 bytes)The day of a Red Sox game, if you don't get here early, go somewhere else.  There is plenty of seating at the U-shaped bar, and booths and tables as well, but it is always packed.  

 

Who's on First?

Sports

19 Yawkey Way

Who's on First caters to Red Sox fans.  It opens at 4PM when the Sox are playing, but not until 9PM on non-game days.  The beer is cheap, and it is less crowded than other bars in the area.

Boston Beer Works

Micro Brews

61 Brookline Ave.

bostonbeerworks.jpg (36165 bytes)Boston Beer Works features a wide variety of home brews that are made on site.  The menu features standard bar fare as well as unique specialties.

 

Copperfield's

Live Music

98 Brookline Ave.

Copperfield's is a change of pace from the other bars in the area.  They have live music Thursday through Saturday night and aren't even open on Sundays unless there is a game.

 

Avalon

Club

15 Landsdowne St.

Be warned that the cover charge for live bands can be up to $15, but national bands play here on occasion.  It generally doesn't open until 10PM and when there is no live band, its a typical dance club.

 

Jake Ivory's

Piano Bar

1 Landsdowne St.

This is another bar that doesn't open until late night, but it is a happening place to go after a game.  Weekday cover is $3 and weekends are $6 but there is always live piano tunes sung along to by the crowd.

 

 

Boylston Bars & Restaurants

Boylston Street is a few blocks east of Fenway.  There are plenty of bars around and there's a good chance you'll run into a few players from the Sox or whatever team is in town.

Lir's is a large bar that really packs 'em in, a line forms early on weekends.  The bar boasts 21 TVs, billiards, and a great atmosphere.

 

Whiskey's

American

885 Boylston St.

Whiskey's is a standard college type crowd watering hole.  Its a good after work hang out for locals, but the crowd loosens up as it gets later.  Seafood and BBQ available on the menu, and there's a chance to win a free lobster.

 

Daisy Buchanan's

American Tavern

240 Newberry St.

Located below the street level a few blocks from the square, Daisy Buchanan's boasts a typical beer drinking crowd, particularly on Thursdays and weekends.  Aside from the run of the mill beer drinkers, many local athletes are regulars as well.

 

Hard Rock Cafe

The Hard Rock Cafe is located right on Copley Square.  There is plenty of beer, somewhat pricey food, and oftentimes live music.  The HRC is referred to as the Massachusetts Institute of Rock; there is a lot of memorabilia from local and national rock legends.

 

 

Allston/Brighton Bars & Restaurants

About two miles west of Fenway is a strip of bars on Brighton Ave. that cater primarily to Boston College students, who can walk there for a night out.

 

White Horse Tavern

Sports

Pool tables, wide open seating and tables, along with plenty of televisions make the White Horse a great place to hang out.  Tall windows surrounding the entrance are opened up on nice summer days to let the fresh air and sunshine in.

 

Sunset Grille and Tap

Brew Pub

130 Brighton Ave.

The Sunset Grille has over one hundred beers on Tap, and a full bar food menu is served until 1AM.  If you're in town early in the week, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday a free buffet is open at Midnight.

Harper's Ferry

Live Music

While you're in town there's always good live music here.  There can be upt to a $20 cover charge if the band is nationally known, but for local acts you'll pay around $5.

 

 

 

Boston Common Bars & Restaurants

While there are a few small pubs around Boston Common, you can't really talk about bars in Boston without mentioning the place "Where everybody knows your name."

 

Bull & Finch Pub

aka Cheers

84 Beacon St.

Its the same on the outside, but when you get inside you realize that the shows creators took a few liberties with the layout of the bar on TV.  Its a tourist trap, and its very small, but the gift shop is good.

 

 

Amherst/UMass Bars & Restaurants

Amherst is located 94 miles west of Boston, and is home to the University of Massachusetts.  Pleasant Street is the center of the town's social life; there are bars and restaurants up and down the street.

 

McMurphy's Uptown Tavern

Irish

McMurphy's is an Irish bar with a college atmosphere.  There is live acoustic music most nights.

 

The Pub

The pub features cheap food and cheap beer in a party atmosphere.
