Charlotte is a growing town, one of the fastest growing cities in the country.  The town is a little spread out, although Bank of America Stadium and plenty of bars and restaurants are right downtown.

Charlotte hotels and bars are relatively inexpensive, but flying in and out of town can be pricey.  The good news is that it is a USAirways hub, so there are lots of flights.

For a little ACC basketball, head up the road to Winston-Salem and Wake Forest University.

FOOD

The food in Charlotte is pretty standard; there is no specific type of food the town is known for.  There are good local restaurants to choose from, however.  Check out the Restaurants and Bars page for the best offerings in the Queen City!

CHARLOTTE ATTRACTIONS

Paramount's Carowinds theme park is located only a few miles from Charlotte, right on the South Carolina border.  Admission is about $35; be sure to check their web site for dates of operation.

There is usually some sort of festival or similar activity going on in town on weekends, particularly in the summer; check Charlotte.com for information on your travel weekend.

NIGHTLIFE

Charlotte is a young city, and there is plenty to do at night in terms of bars and restaurants.  The Uptown area is loaded with bars, and South End has some good options as well.

TRANSPORTATION

Charlotte is pretty much a car-rental town.  The cost of a cab from the airport to downtown, plus the further expense of cabbing around town, makes a rental car worth it.
