Cincinnati was founded in 1788, and has a largely German population. Most people live in the outskirts of the city or in the suburbs; central downtown consists entirely of office buildings and hotels, with almost no residential buildings. The locals in Cincinnati are very friendly, and won't give any trouble to out-of-town fans. The city is also easy on your wallet; the downtown hotels are very affordable, as are most of the local restaurants. Check out JOHNNY ON THE SPOT to see how other sports fans rate Cincinnati!! FOOD The food in Cincy is good if you know where to go. You can find very good food in some breweries, and there is good German-style food all over town. The city's most popular restaurant chain is Skyline Chili, which serves up chili over spaghetti or on a hot dog. See the Restaurants and Bars page for more info. CINCINNATI ATTRACTIONS Cincinnati has a variety of daytime options. King's Island, located a few miles east of town, is a great amusement park with several roller coasters. The Cincinnati Zoo is located a few miles north of downtown. The Newport Aquarium is located just across the river in Kentucky. If you have the urge to do a little wagering, there is horse racing in Kentucky and casinos in Indiana; all are within reach of Cincy. Check the Gambling page for more information. NIGHTLIFE Cincy's nightlife is centered around Main Street, located within walking distance of downtown hotels. There are also several bars around downtown and the U of Cincinnati, and Mt. Adams is an option for more upscale-type bars. Be aware that many bars in Cincinnati don't open until late afternoon, even on weekends. Check the Restaurants and Bars page for more info. TRANSPORTATION If you're staying downtown, Cincinnati is an easy town to get around. The stadiums are within walking distance, as are many bars and restaurants. You don't really need a car unless you want it to tailgate. The airport is a short cab ride into Kentucky. WEATHER Cincinnati is warm in the summer, but can get very cold in fall and winter. Check the City Weather page for historical temperatures and precipitation. |
