Indianapolis is a compact city, with the airport located only ten miles from downtown and both Lucas Oil Stadium and Conseco Fieldhouse located downtown. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is located just a few miles west of downtown. In addition to its own pro teams, Indianapolis provides access to some great college sports. Purdue (West Lafayette) and Indiana (Bloomington) are both within an hours drive, and well worth the trip for some Big Ten action. Indianapolis won't be too hard on your wallet. Hotel prices are very reasonable, as are food and drinks at most locations in the area. Check out JOHNNY ON THE SPOT to see how others rate Indianapolis!! NIGHTLIFE There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from in Indy. The downtown area near Conseco Fieldhouse and the Lucas Oil Stadium features mostly chain bars and clubs. Lockerbie Square and Fountain Square, each about a mile from downtown, offer a more local scene. The best nightlife to be found is in Broad Ripple, about 8 miles north of downtown. Check the Restaurants and Bars page for more info. INDIANAPOLIS ATTRACTIONS
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum is located west of downtown at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The closest casinos to Indianapolis are over 90 miles away. Hoosier Park features live harness or thoroughbred racing for most of the year, and simulcast racing year-round. Hoosier Park is located in Anderson, about 30 miles northeast of Indianapolis. TRANSPORTATION If you are attending an event at the Lucas Oil Stadium or Conseco Fieldhouse and have a hotel downtown, you won't need to rent a car in Indianapolis. There are plenty of things to do within walking distance, and the Broad Ripple area is a short cab ride away. The airport is only about ten miles from downtown. Indy has bus service, but there is no train or monorail of any kind. WEATHER Indianapolis is very pleasant in summer, and cold in winter. It is often windy, which of course increases the chill. Check the City Weather page for historical temperatures and precipitation.
