Jacksonville Municipal Stadium opened in 1995 for the Jaguars' first home game.
Construction was completed in record time; Alltel's opener marked the first time in NFL
history that an expansion team played its
first game in a new stadium.
Alltel holds 73,000 for NFL games, but about 7,000 seats are added
for the annual Georgia-Florida game. The stadium offers great
sightlines, although the upper deck is set a bit further back from the
field than most other new stadiums.
Alltel
hosts the Gator Bowl each New
Year's Day, and also hosted Super Bowl XXXIX in 2006.
Alltel is located east of downtown and is surrounded by parking
lots; all allow tailgating. There are a few stadium lots that are
available game by game, as well as several private lots. The stadium lots are only $10 per car
and $30 for oversized
vehicles. If you aren't driving to the game, the water taxi has a stop
at the stadium.
If you don't want to put together a tailgate yourself, the Pepsi
Tailgate Zone just south of Alltel in Metropolitan Park opens 3
hours prior to kickoff, and has food from many local restaurants as well
as plenty of beer.
