New York, New York

New York, New York is the tallest casino in Vegas.  It's design, patterned after the New York skyline, also makes it one of the most recognizable.  A huge plus is the TV's mounted above each gaming table, but inexplicably, the sports book is almost non-existent.

The Boardwalk casino is pretty lousy as far as casinos go, but you might find much cheaper rooms than at the bigger hotels, and much lower minimums at the tables.  And hey, its on the Strip!

The Flamingo has probably one of the most photographed entrances to any casino in Vegas, with its loud pink and orange flashing lights.  The casino is much older than most in this area, however, and it shows.

Casinos Close to Las Vegas Strip

These casinos are close to the Strip, but not actually on it.  In some cases, rates will be cheaper as a result.  Most of these hotels also appear on our Las Vegas Strip map.

 

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino

The Hard Rock is average at best when comparing to casinos.  However, it is one of the best party spots in Vegas.  It is located a few blocks east of Las Vegas Boulevard, near the Thomas & Mack Center.

The Orleans is a French Quarter and Mardi Gras themed casino located a few blocks west of the Strip.  It offers excellent value, and each room is actually a small suite.

The Las Vegas Hilton is a huge hotel and casino located one block off the Strip, north of the main part of the Strip.

Stratosphere Tower

The Stratosphere is the tallest building in America west of the Mississippi river.  Built in 1995, the tower features a large casino and a good sports book as well.  It is located well north of the main part of the Strip.

The Rio is located just a block west of the strip.  The Rio will host the 2005 World Series of Poker from June 3 through July 15, although the final two days will be held at Binion's Horseshoe.

Downtown Las Vegas Casinos

The downtown area of Vegas lacks the glitz and glamour of the Strip.  The focus is on gambling, as opposed to entertainment, and the casinos tend to be much older and smaller.  The benefit of downtown is that the rates are much cheaper than on the Strip.

 

Golden Nugget

The Golden Nugget is one of the better hotel/casinos in the downtown area.

Binion's Horseshoe hosts the annual World Series of Poker, although will host only the final two days in 2005.  It is located in the heart of downtown.
