Horse Racing
Hollywood Park
is located in Inglewood, just east of the LA airport. The track
opened in 1938 and was rebuilt in 1950 after the entire grandstand and
clubhouse was destroyed by fire. The track hosted the first-ever
Breeder's Cup in 1984, and runs the million-dollar Hollywood Gold Cup
each June. Live racing is held from April through July and
November through December.
Santa Anita, located 15 miles north of downtown Los Angeles in
Arcadia, holds live racing Wednesday through Sunday from late December
through April each year. The track hosts several big races each
year, including the million-dollar Santa Anita Handicap in February
and the Derby-prep Santa Anita Derby in April.
Los Alamitos Race
Course is located just west of Anaheim. The track has
quarter horse racing year-round four nights a week (Thursday through
Sunday).
Casinos
Gambling is legal in California, and several casinos
offer poker and so-called "California games." California games
are games with slight variations of traditional casino card games.
No-Bust Blackjack is blackjack with jokers in the deck and no busting.
Caribbean Stud, Pai Gow Poker, and Pai Gow Tiles follow basically the
same rules familiar to gamblers everywhere. Minimums for many
games are $2, with some going to $5 or $10.

poker tables and California games.

Games including blackjack and Caribbean Stud.
