Check out these great Miami travel books!! BOOK A HOTEL IN SOUTH FLORIDA!!
FLORIDA MARLINS BASEBALL TICKETS
The NBA's Heat play right downtown at American Airlines Arena, while the NFL's Dolphins and baseball's Marlins play at Dolphins Stadium, located halfway between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. The NHL's Panthers play at the fantastic BankAtlantic Center, located in Sunrise west of Fort Lauderdale. Miami and Fort Lauderdale are about 25 miles apart, and both have major airports; Fort Lauderdale is usually the cheaper alternative, but is a much longer ride from Miami Beach. Overall, the area is pretty expensive. Your best hotel location will be one of the beachfront towns; Miami Beach and Ft. Lauderdale are your best choices, with hotel prices ranging from cheap in the summer to very expensive in winter. Check out JOHNNY ON THE SPOT to see how other sports fans rate the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area!! FOOD The food in South Florida is very good, especially if you're a seafood lover. Check out the Restaurants and Bars page for the best offerings in the area. SOUTH FLORIDA ATTRACTIONS If the weather is nice, which it usually is, head for the beach. There are public beaches all over Miami Beach, Hollywood, Ft. Lauderdale, and all the towns in between. Miami has a large Seaquarium as well, located south of the city. You can also check out horse racing at Calder or Gulfstream Park, or watch some jai-alai at one of the local frontons. See our Gambling page for more info. NIGHTLIFE South Florida is well-known for its nighttime club scene. South Beach is packed with clubs and bars, and is very upscale and trendy. Ft. Lauderdale also has a lot of clubs, and is less expensive. Hollywood has a few options as well if you want to be a little more low-key. The bars in town are open until at least 4AM, with some closing at 8AM. This is a late-night town. Check the Restaurants and Bars page for more info on local nightclubs and bars. TRANSPORTATION Miami is a large area, and there can be a lot of traffic at times. You will spend some cash on transportation here, because a rental car is recommended and most people cab it at night because of parking problems. You will want to drive to most games you attend; Dolphins Stadium is all by itself between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, and the Panthers play at National Car Rental Center northwest of the city. The Heat do play right downtown at American Airlines Arena, next to a Metro stop. Miami has two train systems, the Metrorail (map) and Metromover (map). The Metrorail is the larger of the two, but both are fairly limiting. WEATHER South Florida is very hot and humid in summer, and beautifully warm and sunny in winter. Spring and Fall can bring severe weather if a hurricane comes through. Check the City Weather page for historical temperatures and precipitation. |
