The University of Minnesota, located in downtown Minneapolis, competes in the Big 10 in all sports.  The school has had varying success in the three main sports of football, basketball, and hockey.

The football team plays to small crowds at the Metrodome, just south of downtown.  A new, on-campus stadium to house both the Gophers football team and the NFL's Vikings is under consideration, but nothing has been finalized as yet.

The basketball team plays at historic Williams Arena, known to locals as "The Barn."  The Barn was built in 1928, making it one of the oldest arenas in the nation, and is located in the northeast corner of campus.  It seats over 14,000, and features a unique raised floor.

The immensely popular hockey team plays at Mariucci Arena, also located in the northeast corner of campus.  The arena seats 9,700, and all seats are always filled.
