Baton Rouge is Louisiana's capital, and is home to 227,000.  The city is located 80 miles west of New Orleans.  The name of the town came from a red stick that was visible on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River.

Baton Rouge is home to Louisiana State University, as well as Southern University.

The city has a large Mardi Gras festival each year, second in size only to the celebration in New Orleans.

Baton Rouge also has two casinos, the Argosy Casino and the Casino Rouge.  Both offer slots and numerous table games, and are located in the downtown area.

There are bars and restaurants scattered throughout downtown Baton Rouge and near the LSU campus.
