Sugar Bowl/New Orleans Bowl
The Sugar Bowl is one of the four BCS bowl games, and
therefore is the National Championship game once every four years.
It is played in the Superdome, right around
New Year's Day; the date changes by a day or two each year.
The New Orleans Bowl is also held at the Superdome.
The bowl game matches teams from the Sun Belt and Mountain West
conferences.
See the
College Bowl Schedule for game dates.

Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras really can't be described. New
Orleans on a normal weekend is nothing but a party; Mardi Gras is New
Orleans times a hundred.
Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is the day
before Ash Wednesday. There are
parades every day around the city in the week or so leading up to Fat
Tuesday, with participants throwing beads to
the crowds (beads are the currency of Mardi Gras).
If you plan to go, a good time to go is the weekend
before Fat Tuesday. Make your hotel and air reservations well in
advance. There are rooms available right outside the French
Quarter if you book early enough; rooms inside the French Quarter go
faster and are extremely expensive. As long as you're within
walking distance, you'll be fine.

Jazz Fest
New Orleans annual Jazz Festival is held during the last weekend of April and the first
weekend of May. It can be described as an older version of Mardi
Gras; in fact some people avoid Mardi Gras in lieu of Jazz Fest.
Musicians from Louisiana and around the country
perform, and the city turns into an even bigger party than normal.
There are concerts at Fair Grounds race track from 11 to 7 each day of
Jazz Fest, and the many music clubs around town feature acts all day and
night.
