The vast majority of fans in NYC are very hospitable, but, as in other cities, there are some who are looking for trouble. If you're in New York for a game, be careful about getting in people's faces, win or lose. Opposing fans are often the target of beer and other objects, particularly fans of rivals such as the Red Sox or Eagles. Check out JOHNNY ON THE SPOT to see how others rate New York!! FOOD New York offers every kind of food imaginable. Many of America's finest and most expensive restaurants are in the city, and you can also find great food at reasonable prices if you know where to look. Check out the Restaurants and Bars page for the best offerings in New York! NEW YORK ATTRACTIONS There are plenty of things to do in New York. The Empire State Building has an observation deck over 100 stories above Manhattan. The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are in New York Harbor. If you want to check out some museums, the American Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Guggenheim Museum are among the many of interest. If you want to see some top-notch horse racing, Belmont Park, the Meadowlands, and Aqueduct are located in or near the city, and Yonkers Raceway features harness racing. See our Horse Racing page for more info. NIGHTLIFE If you're bored in New York at night, its your fault, not New York's. All over the city are Irish bars, sports bars, dance clubs, drinking halls, pool halls, and everything else you could want. Bars remain open until 4AM. Manhattan is the centerpiece of the New York night scene. Midtown has plenty of offerings, as do the Upper East Side and Upper West Side. If you want to head over to New Jersey, Hoboken is loaded with bars and restaurants. Check the Restaurants and Bars page for more info. TRANSPORTATION The best modes of transportation in New York are the subway and cabs. The subway is a buck or so, and will take you anywhere within the city. Cabs are plentiful. If you are staying in the city, parking ($30+ overnight) and tolls will bankrupt you if you bring a car. If you do have a car, park it in New Jersey or Connecticut and take the train into the city. See our maps page for New York transportation maps. If you want to travel between the city and New Jersey, there are trains that run to Grand Central Terminal on 44th street in Manhattan. Be careful not to miss the last train back, or you're in for a long night. WEATHER Like most eastern cities, New York gets very hot in summer, and very cold in winter. Check the City Weather page for historical temperatures and precipitation. |
