PNC PARK INFORMATION

Pittsburgh is a blue collar town best known for its steel mills and rabid football fans.  The town is located in western Pennsylvania, at the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers.

After thirty years at Three Rivers Stadium, the Pirates (PNC Park) and Steelers (Heinz Field) moved to new digs in 2001.  Both stadiums are located across the river from downtown.  Mellon Arena, home of the Penguins, is a few blocks from downtown.

Pittsburgh is relatively inexpensive, and is compact in size once you're in the city.  The airport is about 15 miles from the city, however.

FOOD

Pittsburgh is not exactly famous for its restaurants, but there are still some good places to go.  In particular, any local will tell you Primanti Brothers must be visited.  Check out our Restaurants and Bars page for more information.

PITTSBURGH ATTRACTIONS

The Carnegie Science Center is located right next to Three Rivers Stadium.  Station Square is a shopping area with lots of bars and restaurants, and is located across the river from downtown.  If you want to ride some great roller coasters, head for Kennywood Park, east of the city.

NIGHTLIFE

Pittsburgh's nightlife scene is varied.  If you're looking for college bars, head for Oakland.  If you are looking for clubs, go to the Strip District.  If you want to drink and hang out, South Side is the best option for you.

TRANSPORTATION

Pittsburgh is a difficult place to drive if you aren't familiar with the town.  There are bridges everywhere, and every wrong turn seems to take you over one.  You can get by without a car, but you will take a lot of cabs and buses.

The city is fairly compact, so you can walk from downtown to the Strip District and the stadium.  A cab from between the airport and downtown is about $35, so a car may be the economical choice regardless of where you stay.  There is also a shuttle from the airport, Express Shuttle USA, that makes many downtown stops.  The fare is $16 one way and $30 roundtrip.

WEATHER

Pittsburgh can get cold early in the fall and stay cold late in the spring.  It also gets pretty humid in the summer, and it rains and snows frequently.  Check the City Weather page for historical temperatures and precipitation.
