SAN ANTONIO SPURS BASKETBALL TICKETS San Antonio is located in southeast Texas. Home to over a million residents (and nearly 2 million in the metro area), it is one of the ten largest cities in the US, a fact that surprises many people. The city has much history, having been settled in the early 1700's. The Alamo, located downtown, is one of America's most famous historical landmarks. San Antonio is home to the Spurs of the NBA, the city's only major pro team. The Spurs play at the new AT&T Center a few miles east of downtown. While the Spurs are the only major team, the Alamodome has hosted many major sporting events, including the Final Four and Big 12 Championship game. The Final Four will return in 2004. Austin, the capital of Texas, is located 82 miles to the north. Austin is home to the University of Texas. San Antonio's natives are friendly, a necessary trait for a town that attracts the large number of conventions hosted by the city. The town is mildly expensive, particularly in the downtown area where most tourists are likely to be spending their money. Check out JOHNNY ON THE SPOT to see how others rate San Antonio!! NIGHTLIFE San Antonio's nightlife scene is centered around downtown. There are many bars and restaurants in the downtown area, including on the River Walk and in Rivercenter Mall. The King William district is nearby and also has many bars. Check the Restaurants and Bars page for more info. FOOD As to be expected, San Antonio's cuisine has a decidedly southwestern flavor. There are plenty of good restaurants in town, particularly around the downtown area. Check out the Restaurants and Bars page for the best offerings in San Antonio! SAN ANTONIO ATTRACTIONS San Antonio's best-known attraction is The Alamo, the site of the defeat of Davy Crockett's Republic of Texas Army by Santa Anna's Mexican forces. The Alamo is located just a few blocks from River Walk. Six Flags Fiesta and Sea World are both located about ten miles outside of downtown. If you're into horse racing, Retama Park features live racing and year-round simulcast wagering. TRANSPORTATION The San Antonio airport is fairly close to downtown, roughly ten miles. If you're staying in a downtown hotel, you'll find that you won't need a car; there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area, and the Alamodome is an easy walk. The AT&T Center is a few miles east. If you don't want to walk or can't find a cab, the VIA Metro Transit can help you get around without a car. If you do have a car, there is plenty of available parking, even downtown. WEATHER San Antonio has hot summers and very mild winters. Overall the weather is very good. Check the City Weather page for historical temperatures and precipitation. |
