San Diego is a beautiful city of 1.2 million residents located on the Pacific Ocean in Southern California.  The city is known for its world-famous zoo and near-perfect climate.

San Diego is home to the Chargers of the NFL and baseball's Padres.  The Chargers play at Qualcomm Stadium, a few miles from downtown, while the Padres play at downtown PETCO Park.  The city is also home to San Diego State University's Aztecs.

San Diego is about average expense-wise compared to other major cities.

FOOD

Seafood and Mexican food are staples in San Diego.  Don't leave town without sampling a fish taco.  Check out the Restaurants and Bars page for the best offerings in San Diego!

SAN DIEGO ATTRACTIONS

San Diego is only 15 miles north of Tijuana, Mexico, an easy trip many people make.  Tijuana offers many bars, restaurants, and shops, as well as bullfighting and dog racing.

The world-famous San Diego Zoo is located in Balboa Park, just east of the Gaslamp Quarter.  Sea World is located on Mission Bay just north of the downtown area.

Additionally, San Diego has 25 miles of public beaches within the city limits, as well as dozens of golf courses.

The San Diego area features several casinos, as well as Del Mar race track.  See our Gambling page for more info.

NIGHTLIFE

The Gaslamp Quarter is the hotspot of the San Diego bar scene.  The area is loaded with bars, clubs, and restaurants, as well as hotels.

Pacific Beach and Mission Beach, about ten miles northwest of downtown, also offer numerous bars and clubs.

Check the Restaurants and Bars page for more info.

TRANSPORTATION

The San Diego metro area is a large one, and you're best bet is to rent a car unless you're confining your visit to downtown and PETCO Park.  The airport is only 10 minutes from downtown, but Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego State, the Zoo, and most other attractions are best reached by car.

If you choose not to rent a car, San Diego has an extensive trolley and bus system.  Click here for a transportation map.

WEATHER

San Diego may have the best weather in the country.  It is never too hot in the city itself, with highs normally not exceeding the 80's, although it can get very hot as you move away from the shore.  There is very little precipitation.

Check the City Weather page for historical temperatures and precipitation.
