I don't know too much about the food scene, hotel scene, or night scene in Dover. I took a day trip to Dover to view a NASCAR race, the MBNA Platinum 400, and my food experience was a fantastic tailgate, featuring engine-grilled spiced shrimp. But, from what I could tell, the area around Dover Downs has what you would expect, ranging from a few chains on the main highway strip (including Denny's, Boston Market, and Applebee's) to Food Marts at the Exxon. I'm sure there might be more to offer than those fine, upstanding, community-friendly establishments, but I am not aware offhand. Hotels in Dover? Don't ask me. I think I saw a Super 8 or something in town. Either drive up for the day or buy a huge motorhome, as many race fans are wont to do. If you do get the motorhome, be sure to get the requisite flags and stickers to pimp your favorite driver. Just don't do anything that makes no sense, like putting a 24 sticker next to a 20 sticker. Come on! But be sure to get your Calvin-pissing-on-a-Ford/Chevy/etc. sticker and proudly display it in a side window. Night scene? Again, I am at a loss. But if your idea of nightlife is chilling in the parking lot after the race while watching drunk mullet-bearing 'necks scream tributes to the 3 like, "This one's for you, Dale" or "Earnhardt changed my life," then you're gonna love the nightlife in Dover. In fact, watching these touching tributes is indeed a favorite of mine, so I rate the night scene highly in Dover. The sports scene in Dover is quite impressive. There's nothing quite like a NASCAR race, and being new to the whole scene, I can honestly say I look forward to going back. You can bring your own beer into the stands, as well as any leftovers from your tailgate. The race itself is truly a spectacle to behold. Overall, Dover gets props, but it definitely loses points for traffic control. If you want to avoid traffic, come WAY EARLY and stay WAY LATE. Otherwise, you'll be stranded for quite some time on the small Delawhere? roads. Delawhere? roads are just not equipped to handle the influx of cars that come with a NASCAR race. It can get quite aggravating. Leave yourself plenty of travel time.
