I have been to many cities in these United States and have been fortunate to visit Detroit on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. This city continues to get a bad rap from people that have never been there. Interesting people, fanatic sports fans and a second to none music scene are just a few of the gems that makes this city unique. Fantastic resturants and great bars make Detroit a city worth making a roadtrip to. Yea, there are some bad areas that should be avoided, but show me ANY big city that doesn't have the same.

We just got back from our first trip to Detroit where we took in a couple baseball games. We've all heard plenty of negative things about Detroit, but after having been there can say that much of it is not true. We had a great time. We spent 2 nights at the Hilton Garden Inn just 2 blocks from Comerica Park. The hotel is only a few years old, in a safe location near the park and Greektown, and the staff was terrific. True some of the buildings and areas in downtown are rundown, but it is apparent that the city is on the mend. Didn't wander around too far at night, but during the day made it out to old Tiger Stadium, took a ride on the peoplemover, and ventured down to Lafayette Coneys for a delicious lunch. Regarding Comerica Park, We've been to 12 different mlb ballparks and Comerica rivals any of them, with the exception of PNC Park in Pitt. There are several fun bars around Comerica to hang out in and schmooze with the locals, the ushers are friendly, and the views from inside the ballaprk are terrific. Most importantly, the fans were the best we have ever encountered. They were knowledgable and passionate, yet friendly to us visitors. Detroit may not be Chicago, but we very much enjoyed our stay there and plan to return someday.

I've lived in many different places here in Detroit (Hamtown, the westside, Dearborn, and in Ferndale for a while) and have traveled to 30 some odd other states, lived on the west coast in a few places, and keep coming back. Not because I coldn't handle it anywhere else, a lot of places in the country are fine and good, but detroit seems to continue to be one of our best kept secrets. The music, my god, the music, and the endless amount of exploring that can be done! There are so many facets of underground culture, and the freedom and privacy that you can find here is priceless. Sure, it's not warm in the winter and there are a lot of rednecks in the burbs, but this aint about the burbs, and it's the midwest, so it's naturally going to be a little cold in the winter and house a few supid white folks, but the auto industry here is collapsing rapidly, so a lot of the rednecks are leaving anyhow. But there is so much good, and so much style! The good looking people here are by far the best looking in the country, we are a beutiful city full of character, and all the fools from town that keep putting it down would leave if they could afford to, but insted their lazy butts just keep putting the city down and they've never accepted the good things about Detroit because they are too racist to come down here. We welcome you, just leave that funky additude at home, and get out of the car once in a while! Citys are for walking in, not just taking 75 to the Joe and going back to yo momma's arms in the burbs fool!

Pistons, Red Wings, UofM, MSU, the Super Bowl....Great Sports to choose from. The night life was amazing. If you haven't been here (lately or never) you should make the trip. The bad wrap this city has taken is not right, at least not now.

hmmm.... how do describe detroit? armpit comes to mind, so let's go with that. moreover, the armpit of a toothless, inbred, mullet-wearing, nascar-watching, wife beater-wearing, harry back-displaying, wheel in the sky-listening redneck. this, i think, compactly illustrates detroit.

Detroit seems to be a town where all of the people who live in the suburbs (the whites) feel it necessary to tell other people how Detroit it is, even though they don't really know much about Detroit (or any other city for that matter) because they never go there. All they know about is where the nearest White Castle is. Pretty cheesy city. It's basically a bigger, grimier Cleveland.

Detroit is a Great sports town!!! We went to the Joe to see a Wings game, and took the People Mover downtown and out to see Comerica Park. Stayed at the Pontchartrain Hotel right downtown, and had a great time. Now the Pistons are NBA champs, and the Lions and Tigers are on the way up....lots of fun bars in Greektown area, along with the casinos....crime isn't a major problem, as long as you stay alert and don't walk around alone, same as any other big city. Make sure you try a Coney Island dog...

I don’t really know where to begin as far as this city is concerned. I guess I’ll just be honest. If you like sports, techno, rock and roll, blue collar bars and blue collar people, Detroit is the place for you. Sure, the inept city counsel and mayor are busy trying to “church” it up with newer trendier things, but the simple truth is, is that they are too busy arguing to ever get anything done. So lets just enjoy it for what it is. It is not a Chicago, New York, L.A., or San Francisco. Detroit is however, a place where you can go to find and appreciate normal hard drinking, sports loving, passionate (though mistaken for rude) people. Go to the Old Shellehleigh, and a ball game. There is one good day of hard drinking. Go to the Techno Festival in May. Go to a Red Wings Game and the North American International Auto Show. Check out the G.M. world headquarters and get blasted at a casino. Go to any of the multiple bars in Greek Town and Harmony Park. If you are an Artsy person, check out the DIA and go to a show at the FOX theater. Detroit has the second biggest theater district only to New York. I bet you didn’t know that you Detroit haters! And if you must, go out side the city and go to Greenfield Village you pussy. Everything I’ve listed here except Green Field Village is within walking distance of each other. I wouldn’t worry about safety. Detroit is primarily made up of three kinds of people. Suburbanites, who are there to have a good time just like you. Assholes, who for some reason or another have taken it upon themselves to make sure that this city’s name keeps getting dragged through the mud. And the rest of us who are tired of the assholes wrecking our good time. I’d only be scared if I were an asshole. P.S. Screw Canada!! Why support a socialist regime when you can have a good old kick ass American good time in the D. -Matt

They call it the "Big D". The D stands for DUMP. This place is a TRASH CAN and the people are very RUDE.I guess that's why they have to "Sell Michigan" and they say "we need to do something to keep the 19 to 35 years old people here." They are the SMART ONES. If you drive a Chrysler or Ford in michigan you are stuck in the FAST LANE going slower than all teh traffic. DON'T YOU GET IT? There must be a requirement to buy one of these vehicles: You have to be STUPID. The music on the Radio is just like an assembly line: Same shit different day. The stations are an insult to my intellence. To many hands are trying to get in my pocket. Go Get a REAL JOB TAX MAN. This place is a DUMP. Look around.. Get it? Probally not
