Bristol!!
Bristol Motor Speedway, known as Thunder Valley, is tucked away in
the Appalachian foothills in eastern Tennessee, about six miles south of the
Virginia border. The track is 115 miles east of Knoxville, and 160
miles west of Winston-Salem, NC.
Bristol is very small at just 0.533 miles; nearly half the field is
forced to pit on the backstretch. It seats 160,000 in an enclosed
configuration, so the noise from the cars fills the seating bowl and has no place
to escape.
As one of NASCAR's most popular tracks, Bristol is constantly
upgrading its facilities and expanding its capacity. The track has
doubled its seating in recent years, and added a video board and
electronic scoreboard in the infield.
Bristol hosts two NASCAR weekends each year, each featuring a Busch
series race and a Nextel Cup race. The stops are typically made
in March and August; see the NASCAR
Nextel Cup and
Busch schedules for dates.
For ticket information, call 423-764-1161. Tickets sell out
well in advance, so call early.
Plenty of parking surrounds BMS. Most parking requires a fee,
however, the speedway owns many lots nearby and does not charge for
parking.
