Talladega!!
Talladega
Superspeedway is NASCAR's longest and fastest track. The
2.66-mile tri-oval features a 4,000 foot backstretch that enables
cars to achieve speeds well beyond those of any other NASCAR
venue.
Talladega currently holds 143,000 fans, and has expanded seating in
nine of the last ten years. The track is located just south of
I-20 (see map), 40 miles
east of Birmingham and 95 miles west of
Atlanta. Additionally, the
International Motor Sports Hall of Fame is located adjacent to
Talladega.
Talladega hosts two NASCAR weekends a year, featuring both Busch
Series and Nextel Cup races. The stops are typically made in
April and October; see the NASCAR
Nextel Cup and
Busch schedules for dates. For
ticket information, call 256-362-RACE.
There is plenty of parking surrounding the massive speedway.
Tailgating is encouraged, as it is at every NASCAR event; lots open at 5
am on race days. Beer may be brought into the track, but must be
in cans and must be carried in a 6x6x12 or smaller soft bag (no hard
coolers are allowed).
Traffic in and out of Talladega is bad, but not unbearable. The
track's proximity to I-20 makes for an easier getaway than many other
NASCAR venues.
The track is fairly isolated; there isn't much nearby as far as
restaurants and hotels go. There are numerous hotels dotting I-20
as you approach from Atlanta and Birmingham, with most selling out well
in advance. Click a link to the left to book a hotel in the area.
