Herbie's Hushpuppies, from Suffolk, VA

These hushpuppies are easy to make, and make a great side dish at tailgates!

Time Required:  Less than 1 hour

Skill Required:  Minimal cooking skills needed

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups plain unbolted white cornmeal OR House of Autry's hushpuppy mix

  • 1/3 cup sugar

  • 1 tsp onion salt

  • 2 tbsp finely minced onions

  • 1 1/2 cups water

Mix ingredients until wet but firm, spoon into hot oil at 325 degrees

Makes 24-30 hushpuppies
